Georgia Uncovered

9 days | Georgia beyond standard routes

This journey is designed for travellers who want to experience Georgia from a different perspective — beyond the most obvious highlights and classic
sightseeing routes. The program leads through lesser-known regions, unusual landscapes, local communities, border areas and places rarely included in standard itineraries. It shows a more complex and surprising side of the country: beautiful, diverse, sometimes raw, but always deeply memorable.
This is not the picture-perfect version of Georgia often seen in travel brochures. It is a carefully planned journey for those who are curious, openminded and interested in seeing the country with more context, contrast and authenticity.

Why choose this program

  • discover Georgia beyond the most common travel routes
  • visit lesser-known regions, landscapes and local communities
  • experience a combination of history, nature and social context
  • see unusual places rarely included in standard itineraries
  • enjoy a journey with more contrast, character and local atmosphere
  • follow a carefully planned route with private transport and flexible pacing

How the journey is structured

This is a 9-day touring program of moderate intensity, designed for travellers
who want to see a less obvious side of Georgia while still travelling in a
structured and well-organised way. The days are varied. Some include longer drives and exploration of more remote or less accessible areas, while others allow for slower visits, local encounters and time to absorb the atmosphere of each place. The route is built around contrast: landscapes, history, architecture, local life and places that often remain outside standard travel programs. This is not a resort-style holiday or a classic highlights-only tour. It is a journey for travellers who are open to a more authentic and sometimes less polished version of the country — without giving up the comfort of good planning, private transport and carefully selected accommodation.
Accommodation combines boutique hotels, good-standard properties and more local stays, chosen according to the character of each location.

Day 1
Kutaisi and Everyday Imereti

The journey begins in Kutaisi, one of Georgia’s oldest cities and the natural
gateway to western Georgia. The day includes a walk through the city and a
visit to a local market — a place where everyday life is still more important than tourist presentation. Regional products, seasonal fruit, spices, cheeses, local sweets and the rhythm of daily trade create a first introduction to Georgia that feels direct, colourful and unpolished. This is a slower opening day, designed to bring travellers into the atmosphere of the country without unnecessary rush.

Day 2
Vardzia and thermal springs

A day dedicated to southern Georgia and one of the country’s most remarkable historical sites. The route leads to Vardzia, the rock-hewn city associated with the age of Queen Tamar and carved into the cliffs above the Mtkvari River. After exploring its tunnels, chambers and rock-cut passages, the journey continues towards natural sulfur springs. Bathing in open-air pools surrounded by nature adds a completely different rhythm to the day — simple, local and memorable.
Overnight in a less obvious location, away from the main travel routes.

Day 3
Dmanisi, Javakheti and the Origins of Europe

Travel through the open landscapes of Javakheti, one of Georgia’s most
distinctive and less visited regions. The route may include Paravani and Tsalka lakes, as well as lesser-known historical sites along the way.
The main focus of the day is Dmanisi — one of the most important
archaeological sites in Europe, connected with some of the earliest evidence of humans outside Africa. The program also includes Bolnisi, home to one of the oldest basilicas in Georgia. This is a day of wide landscapes, deep history and places that rarely appear on
standard first-time routes.

Day 4
David Gareja and Semi-Desert Landscapes

Transfer towards eastern Georgia and the semi-desert landscapes of Udabno. The program includes the David Gareja monastery complex — one of the most distinctive sites in Georgia, where rock-cut monastic architecture meets open, almost lunar scenery.
This day offers a complete shift in atmosphere: minimal vegetation, wide
horizons, silence and a raw landscape very different from the mountains,
vineyards and green valleys usually associated with the country

Day 5
Kakheti and the Pankisi Valley

A day of strong contrasts and cultural layers. The first part of the program
leads through Kakheti, Georgia’s main wine region, with time for local culinary experiences, workshops, tastings or a traditional meal depending on the final arrangement. Later, the journey continues towards the Pankisi Valley, home to the Kist community. This part of the program offers an opportunity to understand a different cultural and social layer of Georgia — one shaped by mountain traditions, local identity and a history that remains outside most standard travel narratives.
This is one of the most distinctive days of the journey

Day 6
Tbilisi Beyond the Obvious

The capital, approached differently. Instead of focusing only on the classic
landmarks, this day looks at Tbilisi through its courtyards, flea markets, Sovietera traces and less polished urban spaces.
The program may include selected locations connected with the city’s 20thcentury history, including a former bomb shelter or other Soviet-era sites, depending on access and local conditions. The day ends with an evening supra — a traditional dinner with music, local cuisine and the atmosphere of Georgian hospitality. This is Tbilisi as a living city, not only a postcard capital.

Day 7
Chiatura and Industrial Georgia

Transfer through Sachkhere and the Imereti region towards Chiatura — one of the most unusual towns in Georgia. Known for its mining history, dramatic landscape and Soviet-era cable car infrastructure, Chiatura offers a completely different perspective on the country. This is a day focused on industrial heritage, social history and places that are rarely included in standard travel programs. It adds a raw, unexpected and visually powerful layer to the journey.

Day 8
Racha and Lesser-Known Georgia

A slower day in Racha, one of Georgia’s most atmospheric and less visited
regions. The program may include vineyards, churches, small towns and local stops that reveal a quieter side of the country. Visits may include Nikortsminda, known for its remarkable cathedral, and Oni, home to one of the most important synagogues in the Caucasus. This is a day
far from the main routes — calmer, regional and full of understated character.

Day 9
Tskaltubo, Kinchkha Waterfall and Departure

The final day leads to Tskaltubo, a former Soviet spa town known for its
abandoned sanatoriums, faded grandeur and distinctive atmosphere. It is one of the most visually and historically unusual places in western Georgia — a fitting conclusion to a journey built around contrast.
Depending on timing, the program also includes a stop at Kinchkha Waterfall before transfer to the airport and the end of the journey
