Georgia Winter Ski Safari
11 days | Bakuriani, Svaneti and the High Caucasus
This is not a standard ski holiday in one resort. It is a winter journey across Georgia — combining skiing, mountain landscapes, regional food, spa moments
and the distinctive atmosphere of the Caucasus. The route leads from western Georgia towards Borjomi and Bakuriani, then further into Svaneti, one of the country’s most spectacular mountain regions. Travellers experience different winter landscapes, from forested resort areas to the dramatic high-mountain scenery around Mestia. The program is designed for those who want to ski, travel and discover Georgia at the same time. It offers the comfort of a well-organised journey, private transport and selected accommodation, while keeping the sense of adventure that makes winter in the Caucasus so memorable.
Why choose this program
●combine skiing with discovering Georgia in winter
●experience Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, in a more atmospheric way
●travel along the Georgian Military Highway towards the Greater Caucasus
●ski in Gudauri, one of the country’s best-known winter resorts
●enjoy mountain views, local cuisine, wine and Georgian hospitality
●relax in traditional sulfur baths after active days in the mountains
●follow a well-planned route with private transport and comfortable pacing
How the journey is structured
This is an 8-day winter program of moderate intensity, designed for travellers
who want to combine skiing with culture, local experiences and time in the
Caucasus Mountains. The journey begins in Tbilisi, with time to discover the capital’s old streets, hidden corners, historical layers and local atmosphere. The route then continues along the Georgian Military Highway towards Gudauri, where several days are dedicated to skiing and winter activities.
The program is active, but not extreme. It is not designed as a high-difficulty
freeride expedition, although optional winter activities such as heliskiing,
snowmobiles or paragliding may be available depending on weather, safety
conditions, local availability and the group’s preferences.
The final part of the journey returns to Tbilisi, allowing time for relaxation, sulfur baths and a traditional Georgian supra. Accommodation is arranged in carefully selected properties, and all transfers are provided by private vehicle with driver.
Day 1 11 days | Bakuriani, Svaneti and the High Caucasus
Arrival in Kutaisi and meeting with the trip leader. The journey begins with a transfer towards Bakuriani, one of Georgia’s best-known winter resorts.
Depending on arrival time, the route includes a stop in Borjomi, a historic spa town famous for its mineral waters and surrounding forested landscapes. There may also be time for a walk in Borjomi Central Park or a cable car ride to a viewpoint. Arrival in Bakuriani in the afternoon. Check-in, dinner and overnight stay
Day 2 Bakuriani Ski Resort
The first full skiing day begins with breakfast and time on the slopes of
Bakuriani Ski Resort. This day allows travellers to warm up, adjust their
technique and become familiar with the local conditions.
Depending on the final arrangement and group level, the day may also include an introduction to ski touring or avalanche safety equipment. After skiing, time to relax at the hotel spa, followed by dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
Bakuriani and Forested Winter Landscapes
A full day of skiing in Bakuriani and the surrounding forested areas. The resort offers a combination of prepared slopes, winter scenery and accessible terrain, making it a good continuation after the first day on the snow. The day may end with a longer descent towards the Tatra lift area, depending on conditions and group level. Return to the hotel in the afternoon, with time for spa, dinner and rest.
Day 4
Bakuriani, Didveli and Optional Ski Touring
Another active day in the Bakuriani area, combining resort skiing with the
possibility of skiing beyond the standard slopes, depending on snow
conditions, safety assessment and the experience level of the group.
For those interested, an optional ski touring experience may be arranged in the Didveli area or towards Mount Sakvelo. This day adds a more adventurous element to the program while still remaining part of a structured and guided winter journey. Return to the hotel, spa time, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5
From Bakuriani to Svaneti via Enguri Dam
After breakfast and check-out, the journey continues towards Svaneti — one of Georgia’s most spectacular mountain regions.
On the way, the program includes a stop at the Enguri Dam, one of the most impressive hydrotechnical structures in the Caucasus. The route then follows a winding mountain road into Svaneti, with dramatic views and a clear shift in landscape and atmosphere. Arrival in Mestia, the main town of Svaneti, known for its medieval stone towers and high-mountain setting. Check-in, dinner with elements of Svan cuisine and overnight stay.
Day 6 Hatsvali and Views of Mount Ushba
A full skiing day in Hatsvali, one of the main ski areas near Mestia. The resort offers beautiful mountain views, including, in good weather, a spectacular panorama towards Mount Ushba — one of the most iconic peaks of the Caucasus. The day is focused on skiing or snowboarding in a high-mountain setting, with time to enjoy the atmosphere of winter Svaneti. Return to the hotel in the afternoon, followed by dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7
Tetnuldi and the Adishi Route
After breakfast, transfer to Tetnuldi Ski Resort, one of the most impressive ski areas in Georgia and a well-known location for freeride enthusiasts.
The day is dedicated to skiing in the Tetnuldi area. Depending on weather, snow conditions, safety assessment and group level, experienced participants may have the option of a longer descent towards the village of Adishi, with wide open slopes and views towards the Tetnuldi massif and glacier landscapes. In the afternoon, return to Mestia. The program may also include a visit to a traditional Svan tower. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8
Hatsvali, Optional Snowcat or Heliski Experience and Mestia
Museum
Another day in the Hatsvali area, with time for skiing and panoramic mountain views. The upper station with its viewpoint and restaurant offers one of the most memorable perspectives over the surrounding peaks.
For those interested, an optional snowcat or helicopter-assisted skiing
experience may be available at an additional cost, depending on weather, safety conditions and local availability. In the afternoon, the program includes a visit to the Museum of History and Ethnography in Mestia, offering important context on Svan culture, medieval art
and the region’s unique mountain identity. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9
Ushguli and High-Mountain Svaneti
A full-day excursion to Ushguli, one of the highest permanently inhabited
villages in Europe and one of the most iconic places in Svaneti.
The journey is made by 4×4 vehicles through high-mountain landscapes and traditional villages. Depending on conditions and group level, the day may include a ski touring element in the Ushguli area, with an approach towards higher terrain and a descent back towards the village.
