Argonautica Family Journey 10 days | Legends, mountains and Georgian adventures for families
Some places are simply visited. Others are discovered through stories. Georgia belongs to the second kind. It is a country where mountains can look like sleeping giants, stone towers guard old family histories, caves feel like underground kingdoms, and every valley seems to carry its own legend. Between the Caucasus and the Black Sea, this is also the land connected with one of the most famous myths of the ancient world — the story of the Golden
Fleece and the Argonauts. This journey is designed for families who want to experience Georgia in a more engaging way. It combines real places with stories, nature, local food, workshops, mountains, the sea and enough space for children to explore without turning the trip into a rushed sightseeing marathon. It is not a children’s program in a childish sense. It is a family journey created for both generations — curious children and adults who still like a good story.

How the journey is structured
This is a 10-day family touring program of moderate intensity, designed for
families who want to discover Georgia without overloading the days.
The route combines exploration, storytelling, nature, cultural stops, workshops
and time to rest. Some days are more active, especially in the mountains or
natural sites, while others are slower, with time by the sea or in places where
children can explore at a calmer pace. The program is designed to keep both children and adults engaged. Instead of moving from monument to monument, the journey is built around experiences: walking through caves, taking a boat through a canyon, cooking together, entering Svan towers, reaching high mountain villages and ending the story in one of Georgia’s most remarkable rock-hewn cities. Accommodation is arranged in carefully selected properties, including smaller, more local stays where appropriate. All transfers are provided by private vehicle with driver, allowing the journey to remain flexible and comfortable for families.
Day 1 Kutaisi and the Beginning of the Story
Arrival in Kutaisi and the beginning of the family journey. Kutaisi is one of
Georgia’s oldest cities and a place connected with the legend of the Golden
Fleece, making it a natural starting point for the story.
The program includes a relaxed walk through the city and a visit to a local
market — a colourful first encounter with Georgia through fruit, spices, sweets, cheese, bread and everyday life. In the evening, dinner in a local setting introduces the family to Georgian hospitality in a calm and easy way.
Day 2 Prometheus Cave and First Hands-on Experiences
A day that naturally captures the imagination. The program includes a visit to Prometheus Cave — a vast underground world of stalactites, tunnels and
illuminated chambers. For children, it feels like entering a hidden kingdom; for adults, it is one of western Georgia’s most impressive natural sites.
In the afternoon, the program includes a simple culinary workshop, such as
preparing traditional Georgian dishes or bread, depending on the final
arrangement. This day combines discovery with hands-on experience, making it more engaging than standard sightseeing.
Day 3
Martvili Canyon and the Road to the Mountains
The day begins with Martvili Canyon, where the family can enjoy a walk and, weather permitting, a short boat experience among rock formations, greenery and clear water. Later, the journey continues towards the Caucasus. The landscape begins to change — from the softer, greener west of Georgia to more dramatic mountain scenery. This transition becomes part of the adventure, preparing the family for the highland world of Svaneti.
Day 4
Mestia and the Svan world
A day in Mestia, the main town of Svaneti and one of Georgia’s most distinctive mountain regions. For centuries, Svaneti remained relatively isolated, preserving its own traditions, architecture and strong local identity.
The program includes time to see the famous stone defensive towers, visit the local museum and discover the atmosphere of a high-mountain town
surrounded by some of the highest peaks of the Caucasus.
This is where the journey changes character: less obvious, more remote and
full of mountain stories.
Day 5
Ushguli and high mountains
A full-day excursion to Ushguli, one of the highest permanently inhabited
villages in Europe and one of the most iconic places in Svaneti.
The route leads through mountain roads, traditional villages and dramatic
landscapes. In Ushguli, the family walks among medieval stone towers, with
views towards the Shkhara glacier and the high peaks of the Caucasus.
This is one of the strongest moments of the journey: wide open space, silence, mountain air and a landscape that feels completely different from everyday life.
Day 6 From the Mountains to the Black Sea
Departure from Svaneti and transfer towards the Black Sea coast. The day is built around a clear change of scenery — from cool alpine landscapes and stone towers to a warmer coastal setting. The journey allows families to rest after the mountain part of the program and enjoy a slower rhythm on arrival by the sea. Depending on timing, there may be time for a short walk, dinner or simply relaxing after the transfer.
Day 7
Batumi and contemporary Georgia
A slower family day in Batumi, Georgia’s main coastal city. The program may include a walk along the seaside boulevard, the city centre, selected viewpoints and a ride on the Argo cable car for views over the Black Sea and the surrounding hills. Batumi adds a different layer to the journey: modern Georgia, coastal atmosphere, subtropical greenery and time to enjoy the sea without pressure.
Day 8
Nature and open time
A more flexible day, designed to give families space to slow down. Depending on the season, weather and group preferences, the program may include a visit to tea plantations, a nature walk, a botanical or coastal experience, or simply more time by the sea. This day is deliberately less packed. After several days of travel, caves, canyons and mountains, it gives both children and adults time to rest, enjoy the surroundings and choose a lighter rhythm.
Day 9
Vardzia and the Final Chapter of the Story
A strong final chapter of the journey. The program leads to Vardzia — one of
Georgia’s most remarkable rock-hewn sites, carved into the cliffs above the
Mtkvari River. Walking through tunnels, chambers, passages and viewpoints becomes a natural conclusion to the family adventure: after caves, canyons, towers and mountains, the journey ends in a place that feels almost like a city from a legend. Depending on the route and timing, the day may also include Khertvisi Fortress or selected scenic stops along the way. Evening transfer towards the final overnight location.
Day 10
Departure from Kutaisi
Time for final purchases of local products, souvenirs, sweets, spices or small
gifts, depending on flight time.
Transfer to Kutaisi airport and end of the family journey through Georgia.
